Going door to door to sell their sound - a brilliant music-marketing plan from this Radstock singer

With no way to reach out to new fans with gigging this local band has come up with a brilliant direct marketing campaign.

The band, the Young Martyrs, whose lead singer hails from Radstock, have been writing directly to drum up support and - no pun intended - popping notes through people's doors.

During the coronavirus lockdowns it seemed a good, and perhaps the only way, for the band to get heard. And it has worked.

Singer Tom Corneill was behind the band width idea. He told Nub News: "

I'm the singer, and guilty of the writing to fans initiative!

"We wanted to come up with something more personal than trying to grow using social media, and as we've been unable to gig during the pandemic we thought we'd do something different and pop a little note through the doors of people who live near us. It's been an interesting exercise and we've picked up some new fans, so we're really pleased and plan to do more. "

Tom used to live in the centre of Radstock, but has now moved to Carlingcott, just around the corner. Other members of the band are also local.

This is their marketing spiel:

"We live around here you see (I live just outside Peasedown), and not being able to play any gigs (thanks a lot, Covid), we wanted to find another way to connect with people. We thought maybe dropping a note through your door might convince you to give us a little listen.

Getting your music heard can be a challenge at the best of times, but the world is extra strange right now and we're really grateful for any support we get. The good news is, we're also pretty good!!

The leaflet that came with this little note has two black & white squares on it. If you scan either of them with your phone, you'll be able to listen to our music or find us on social media where we talk about future gigs and stuff like that. You can find out more at www.youngmartyrs.com if you're super keen.

Anyway, thanks for reading this. It would make four local fellas really, really happy if you gave us a listen. "

If you want to hear more, the band do have two gigs now lined up, two headline slots, both in Bristol:

The Thunderbolt, Thursday 15th July, tickets here: hdfst.uk/E64047

Crofters Rights, Sunday 5th Sept, tickets here: hdfst.uk/E64050
