Spotted in Radstock : If you wondered why and who CALM are

If you saw this man out pounding the pavements in Radstock today (November 21) then he was on his daily three mile hike raising money to help tackle the tragedy of male suicide.

Ashley Goodridge, with his group of supportive friends, has set ambitious running, cycling and walking distance targets, 672 miles before lockdown ends to raise money for the little-known Campaign Against Living Miserable charity.

They call themselves the TC group - the Thursday Club - and include Frome footballer Martin Lenihan - a group of mates who have been meeting up for a chat and get together for nearly six years.

But while they have that support, many men do not, and so they are raising money for CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably) which offers a prevention helpline and campaign for those having suicidal thoughts.

Suicide is sadly the single biggest killer of men under the age of 45 in the UK.

It costs CALM £8 to take a call from someone who needs a listening ear and just over £400 to train someone to take those calls and their prevention rates are impressive.
