Spread the Christmas cheer and gift your unwanted books at Midsomer Norton Library

By Tim Lethaby 26th Nov 2019

Midsomer Norton Library is inviting book donations which will be gifted to people in the community who might not otherwise receive a Christmas present.

Bath and North East Somerset Council is calling for help from anyone who might be decluttering their shelves of unwanted books, to take them to Midsomer Norton Library, where they will be wrapped and distributed through local charities as gifts.

The books can be new or second hand, but must be in good condition. Books suitable for adults as well as for children are welcomed.

David Trethewey, director of partnerships and corporate services, said: "In the midst of the exciting festive build-up, it can be easy to forget that not everyone in our community is lucky enough to receive presents on Christmas Day.

"Books shouldn't be a luxury item but sadly some families do not have the means to buy them. We are asking anyone who has books they no longer need to please bring them to us and together we can make a difference to people's Christmas celebrations."

Bright Start Children's Centres, Action for Children, the Salvation Army and the Genesis Trust are working in partnership with the council to distribute the books. Any books that are not able to be gifted will be recycled.
