Somerset distillers, Still Sisters, is very proud to be supporting Secondary Sisters – an online support network devoted to raising awareness of secondary breast cancer and changing the perceptions of living with the incurable disease – as they host an event dedicated to celebrating those living with cancer on 13th October, Metastatic Cancer Awareness Day (also known as Secondary Breast Cancer Awareness Day), at Future Dreams House in London.

Speaking about their support of the Secondary Sisters event, Tori Jordan, Owner, Still Sisters comments:

"My sister, Hannah, and I created Still Sisters together. For us, both as sisters and as young women, we're hugely inspired by Secondary Sisters and their incredible efforts to connect secondary cancer thrivers; educating and raising awareness of secondary breast cancer and encouraging us to live our best lives.

"Many of us know October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, however only one day is dedicated to those living with secondary breast cancer. Incurable breast cancer. The only breast cancer that kills. Thirty one women die every day from secondary breast cancer. We're delighted to support the Secondary Sisters as they celebrate their day, and we hope our contribution brings much enjoyment to those attending such a special event. Sisters always look after sisters, and never has the saying been truer."

Secondary Sisters', Gemma Duff, highlights the importance of their event:

"We often hear of women passing from breast cancer. Rarely is it reported as secondary breast cancer. People don't die from primary breast cancer – they die when the breast cancer cells metastasize (move to other parts of the body). More education on secondary breast cancer is needed – the signs and symptoms, and what's necessary to help treat this disease so more women don't need to die. Many young people are living with secondary breast cancer and living well because of life saving drugs, but eventually these drugs stop working and more research is needed to help more secondary breast cancer patients live for longer. Just because we're not curable doesn't mean we can't live for longer with this disease – stage 4/secondary breast cancer needs more attention, and we'll continue in our quest to be heard, supported and given more time to live once the month is over.

"Our event on Metastatic Cancer Awareness Day is a chance for those of us living with secondary cancer to get together and celebrate, and we're extremely grateful to Still Sisters for spoiling us with their delicious gins – what better way to help us enjoy the day. Sisters really are, doing it for themselves!"

Still Sisters is based in Frome and create its artisan spirits and range of small batch gins using signature locally sourced botanicals – local watercress from organic beds, roses grown in Chard, Lavender from Warminster and Somerset Cider Apples from Perry's Orchard.
