What an incredibly busy start to the school year! But when local children returned to school in September, students at the Kip McGrath Education Centre in Midsomer Norton had already been hard at work for two weeks. Everything has just got busier since then!

Sarah Richards and her team of qualified teachers have been bowled over by the demand for Maths and English tuition from both primary and secondary children. "This is our busiest start to the school year since we began six years ago.", says Sarah, "parents are clearly prioritising their children's education to give them a competitive advantage when they leave school."

Sarah made the switch from a successful 15 year career in teaching at local schools, (culminating in Head of Biology at Norton Hill) to leading the way for English and Maths tuition in the Somer Valley area: "I saw there was a need for tuition from qualified teachers. There was no structured support for young people who might need a boost in their confidence or some bespoke support before important exams".

The centre works with schools and parents to make the best opportunities for young people in the area.

Everyone who visits Sarah's centre enjoys a warm welcome and visitors note the calm, supportive, and purposeful atmosphere. Sarah says this means students can learn at their best without the distractions that might be present elsewhere.

Since early 2018, the centre has become well-known in the local area with a reputation for encouraging and delivering success in young people's education. Students aged from 6-16 attend sessions to build their skills and confidence in English and Maths.

Every student has a personalised learning plan, to ensure they reach their goals

The Kip Programme is designed to help students catch up, keep up and stay ahead in their learning. Tuition in a small group setting, with 1:1 attention throughout, allows each tutor to spend dedicated time with each student to help with the challenges presented by the careful planning. Older students enjoy the focus they have on the sections of the exam they find more difficult. Younger students love building up their Kip points as they learn and collect prizes for each milestone they reach. You should see the prize cabinet!

Small groups, a calm and supportive atmosphere, students at Kip McGrath Education Centre in Midsomer Norton are thriving

Sarah's team of tutors are all qualified teachers, with a wealth of experience across the education sector. "Everyone I've employed has a 'sparkle' about them; I can see it when they are teaching – my tutors thoroughly enjoy teaching, and so our students enjoy their learning. It creates such a lovely working environment, and it makes me proud so see us make a real difference in our community"

"Any tuition begins with a thorough and accurate assessment of the young person's current levels. This lets the family and us at the centre know exactly where we can help." (This assessment is free of charge, and with no obligation).

"This helps the parents to know how their child is getting on, and enables us to plan a personalised learning plan, so that we can ensure they reach their goals."

Lastly, if you're a teacher with QTS, experienced in teaching maths or English to GCSE level, and who wants to share the skills you've amassed with maximum effect, Sarah would love to hear from you too.
