The Green Shop in Midsomer Norton talks about how shopping has changed and it's not ALL bad news

The Green Shop in Midsomer Norton will still be open on Monday (March 30), but only serving customers via the front window, so no more browsing, even at a safe distance.

Owner Emma Ramsden has taken the decision to close to walk ins, and to focus on telephone orders, to keep her staff safe.

She will keep the shop open, but only serve one person at a time at the window, and it will only be open Monday, Wednesday and Friday until 4.30 pm.

But Emma, who is hopeful that as she is fit and well, she can offer an additional delivery service if customers call with their orders, on 01761 418857.

This will be a new way of working for The Green Shop which we first profiled back in January here: Midsomer Norton Nub News

Emma is trying to stay positive, and as part of that she is hopeful that in these difficult times the coronavirus crisis is making people kinder. It has certainly changed their shopping habits.

Emma said: " We have never sold so much yeast and flour. People are baking their own bread and cakes. That has to be nice to see."

Her problem, and one which has also led to their shutting up the shelves, is that they cannot rely on deliveries.

She said: " We have had this run on yeast, so selling over a hundred packets in the last few weeks, it is great but we don't now know when we will get our next batch in. So that's another reason to change The Green Shop.

" We don't want to disappoint our customers and for them to come in and find we don't have it on the shelves.

" Call us instead, and I will see if I can find it . It is the best way and it keeps my staff safe. This going back to basics, is scary but I think it also might be a good thing in some ways."
