The search has begun to find the royalty for the 2019 Midsomer Norton Illuminated Carnival.

The competition this year takes place on Friday September 27 and will be held in Midsomer Norton Town Hall from 7.30pm.

The night will start with the Carnival Prince and Princess classes and then the Carnival Queen and King.

Carnival secretary, Hazel Franklin, said: "The evening will be informal and we want the youngsters to feel as relaxed as possible.

"They will be asked questions about what they like doing, what clubs they take part in, and what carnival means to them.

"We have a panel of three judges who will listen to all the entrants, and then we will make a decision on who will be crowned as the Carnival Royalty."

All the lucky winners will not only receive prize money but will also get to ride in the glass coach during the carnival on Monday November 11.

They will also get requests for a few VIP guest appearances during their year as the royal party.

Its simple to enter, just visit the carnival website via the red button below and pop along on the night - there are not any dress code requirements.

The prize money is £50 each for the Carnival King and Queen, and £30 each for the Carnival Prince or Princess.

Hazel said that plans are progressing well for this year's event, and the organisers are always looking at ways to improve the carnival.

"We keep trying each year to improve the night for spectators and the performers, and it is an all-year task to get all of the organising sorted, from the health and safety to the road closures," she said.

"We are on the look out for more carnival committee members as well - it is not just about meetings, we have lots of fun, and marshal at a number of other events throughout the year."
