Fury at plans for a total of over 500 homes on the edge of Midsomer Norton

Local residents on the edges of Midsomer Norton say it is simply madness to be proposing two sets of housing, which could lead to a total of more than 500 new homes.

There are two planning applications currently active on the planning sites for the area around White Post.

One is into B&NES (21/02973/OUT) and the one in Mendip planning ( 2021/1480/OTS) , which is for 270 dwellings. The planning papers for the B&NES side report: . "It is vital that proposals for the two planning applications be read concurrently as the masterplan illustrates how the two land parcels would function as one cohesive development."

One social media post spelt out the problem is stark terms : " There are no jobs, on the admission of both B&NES and Mendip and over 70% of workers on the current Barrett's estate already commute out of the area because of this. The roads are already jammed at certain times of the day and there are likely to be in excess of 800 more cars."

The deadline for objections to the Mendip plans is September 10.

There are several other active Midsomer housing applications with sales boards now offering 40 homes to be built on land adjacent to the new Primary School.
