Both of Midsomer Norton's nearest Pizza Express restaurants are closing as the company announced that it is cutting over 1,100 jobs.

Pizza Express is closing 73 of its 454 restaurants, two of them in Bristol.

It has branches on Berkeley Square, at the top of Park Street near the university, which has been open for at least twenty years, and Regent Street.

Pizza Express, which started in 1965, is now majority owned by Chinese firm Hony Capital.

The chain was taking part in the Eat Out to Help Out scheme, but had struggled financially, not just due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Ironically the brand's social media tag line is: Here for a good time, been 'round a long time.

Meanwhile The Pizza Express in Street is set to re-open tomorrow (August 20) after it was not named in the list of closures announced by the company.

The Street restaurant is now taking bookings for dine-in, takeaway or click and collect, and from tomorrow will also have availability for walk-in customers during the day and evening.
