Fresh, bright and cooking with authentic Greek ingredients direct from the islands, sailing into Nisi is a joy.

With crisp blue and white covers, this restaurant has been welcomed back to town after a short closure.

Now lovers of true Greek food can enjoy the small plates, unique tasters and of course some delicious baclava and feel they have arrived in the clear blue waters of the Aegean and Ionian seas.

The family-run business started off with small mezes and meals in Paulton, before setting down tables at number 125 the High Street in Midsomer Norton, otherwise knowns as the island, on the corner opposite the Town Hall.

The owners have been in the area for the last five years and drawn to the friendly residents and warm welcome, decided to set down some roots. But apart from a warm welcome and fresh new look what is it that makes Nisi special ?

What is special about Nisi ?

" It is all about the food, " explained owner Polyxeni Spanogianni  or Poly to her guests. " We try and keep it as authentic as possible - most of our ingredients come from Greece, except for vegetables. Which is also one of our reasons why our prices do change slightly. It can be difficult to keep our prices steady when the price of imports from Greece can change. But we do our very best to keep our prices reasonable so that everyone can afford to try Greek food."

" Another brilliant night in Nisi. The food is wonderful, the service is brilliant and the atmosphere is amazing. What an asset to Midsomer!."

For people who have not tried Nisi what can they expect?

Reasonable prices and food to suit all tastes. That is clear with a new revised menu with more dishes than before, but also for anyone who may not want to try out Greek dishes, the kitchen has added in some other options, including burgers and steak.

Poly added : " We are strong believers in the health benefits of a Mediterranean diet. So in our kitchens we cook in an enhanced healthy way, so for instance we only use pure virgin olive oil, again imported from Greece. And all our spices come from small farms in Northern Greece, so again we are creating the authentic Greek tastes.

" A Mediterranean diet is one that is rich in veggies, fruits, legumes, herbs, spices, nuts, and whole grains such as wheat or barley breads —as opposed to refined counterparts. So fresh, minimally processed ingredients, pronounced flavours, and simple recipes. "

For the uninitiated, what could they perhaps try on their first trip to Nisi ?

" Do try our vegetable moussaka," urges Poly. " It is very different, but obviously also very tasty." One satisfied customer could not agree more, posting this review on line: " As a vegetarian, I was delighted to see many veggie options. The veggie moussaka was delicious. The owners are warm and friendly. Will be back! "

Nisi is open from 4pm until 10pm Tuesday to Saturday. To book a table or order food to take away call on 01761322023.
