Magpie, the quirky and colourful shop on the High Street, was only six months old when lockdown came in.

Now the shopping gem has re-opened and although it has been a daunting experience, owner Kelly is already looking to expand the range of what she offers.

The shop , which is open from 10 am until 3 pm Wednesday to Saturday, will soon be stocking vintage Singer sewing machines, along with vintage scrap material packs, alongside the fashion and accessories.

Kelly told Nub News: " In terms of safety, we have rearranged the shop so there is more space, obviously we have hand sanitiser and a till screen.

"We have also a new policy that returns will be quarantined for 72 hours and steamed where possible before returning to the shop floor.

"But we are so glad to be back, and we celebrated with of course - a rainbow window. "

That certainly draws in the custom, bringing some colourful cheer to the High Street. In addition to the clothes which are often showcased in that window, Magpie sells crystals, curiosities, local artists and crafts.

Along with more sewing vintage materials Kelly is also making some other changes , now going for a more mid 20th century vibe with her stock of china and home accessories.

She told Nub News: " We currently have some great mid century West German pottery and glass, Sylvac, breweriana, and a vast collection of quirky cruet sets. "

Along with the genuine vintage fashion, she sells vintage style brands such as Lindy Bop and Hell Bunny, and these will soon be augmented with a collection of vintage haberdashery items for sale, including an old Singer sewing machine and scrap packs.

One notable recent sale, a stone flagon engraved with Paulton Inn, John Hill - 1891. This was the predecessor of the Red Lion in Paulton.

Kelly said: " I hope people realise what we have in the high street since lockdown began and how shopping local is good for the environment - and the soul. And it is fantastic that the farmers' market is back on this month. This could be the start of bringing some life back to Midsomer Norton.

" There are some great people who live here, thanks for supporting Magpie, we hope we bring some quirkyness and uniqueness to the town."
