The roof of one of the Walnut Buildings in Radstock was taken off yesterday (April 29) as part of the step by step demolition process.
Engineers hope that the first of the three apartment blocks will be coming down in the next few days. Locals say that today (April 30) half of one block has completely gone but the other half (including roof) is still up at the moment.
The buildings, at the top of Radstock, are widely described as an a total eyesore. And on social media several say that the demolition is taking too long, and have said that they are tired of finding pieces of debris in their gardens and on the nearby verges.
Curo have updated today their progress report : " Yesterday we started taking down the first of the four blocks at Walnut Buildings. The blocks are being demolished one by one in a controlled and considerate manner, with each building being taken down fully before moving on to the next. Specialist plant equipment is being used to carefully remove roofs and walls and dig up the foundations. Demolition is expected to go on for four weeks. "
Curo have said that the re-build is " An exciting opportunity to create some good quality, modern homes which meet local needs and integrate well within the existing neighbourhood and it's important to hear from the community during our planning phase."
