Children at St Julian's School in Wellow have held a special Carols by Candlelight event.

Held outside, at the end of the school day, children packed out the playground to usher in the Christmas season.

Carols by Candlelight is a long-practiced tradition in the Christian church where familiar yuletide hymns are sang for all to enjoy.

School Headteacher, Ruth Noall, said: "What a lovely way to end the year before the Christmas break, with all the school children together singing carols lit up by candlelight?!

All the children came wrapped up warm, and a collection was taken for The Children's Society at the event with some warm refreshments served too."

£161 was raised for the Children's Society, a national charity that helps to alleviate poverty in poorer communities and campaigns for more better services and opportunities for children and young people.

Events at the school over the Christmas season have also raised:

£68.75 on Christmas Jumper Day for Save the Children

£231.09 in the Christingle collection boxes, also for the Children's Society.
