The Town Council will tonight (November 7) be looking at how youth are looked after in the town.

Nub News has been approached by several local businesses who are concerned that, with apparently nothing valid to do in the evenings, youngsters are being tempted into anti social behaviour.

One business told Nub that a group had started to hang around outside his business and while that in itself was not an issue, they had then 'for fun' turned off his gas supply.

Another report came to Nub News that there is an increasing number of individuals in Midsomer Norton quite openly taking drugs.

On October 3 the Midsomer Norton Community Trust applied for £32,499.60 of funding to cover its Youth Programme, securing the future of its outreach work, games sessions and the Skate Park container, for the next three financial years.

In their submission to the Full Council meeting the Community Trust referred to the container at the towns Skate Park as "a permanent base, in which we can deliver youth work in a safe environment, in all weathers that is well equipped to deliver a variety of activities". However, concerns have been raised that the Skate Park container isn't quite as "vibrant" as the Community Trust would want and that there is a lack of outreach services.

In mid October two town councillors, Cllr Martyn Plant and Cllr Christian Griffiths, visited the container, which is being shut, due to previous anti-social behaviour inside and outside. They will be reporting back on what they found at this evening's Full Council meeting. The initial Community Trust grant application was deferred at the start of October, and now provision of youth support and services in Midsomer is under scrutiny.

At their meeting on November 7, the Town Council will consider setting up a Working Party to "investigate the current provision for young people provided by the Town Council…to develop a clear aim and strategy to allow the delivery of effective Youth Services in the town".
