By Susie Watkins 8th Mar 2021

All the pupils at Writhlington school are back today (March 8) with the executive head saying he could not be more proud of pupils.

Over 800 coronavirus tests were done over the weekend and thanks to that all pupils are back into normal lessons.

Headteacher & CEO MNSP Alun Williams told Nub News: " This means that Writhlington School could start back on the 8th without disruption.

"All years are in and all normal lessons have begun. The pupils have been excellent and are in full uniform and settled well into learning. I'm very proud of them."

The majority of local primary schools also re-opened today but over in Frome the college was staggering opening so that the systems were not overwhelmed.

One parent of a pupil at Writhlington said about the testing over the weekend that there was : " Amazing organisation and communication in such difficult times for schools - and kindness and care from staff really appreciated."

Face masks are expected to be worn in all secondary school classrooms as pupils return - at least for the remaining weeks of this term.

But the UK's Children's Minister Vicky Ford told the BBC that face masks would be "strongly recommended" but they are not compulsory.

The return of millions of school pupils today is after two months of home-learning in the first step of Boris Johnson's 'one-way road to freedom' post-lockdown.

Taking the tests is also not compulsory.
