News in Midsomer Norton and Radstock

Radstock residents are being urged to consider their own health and that of their neighbours by not having bonfires where possible during the Coronavirus pandemic. And Bath &North East Somerset are publicising a hotline where people can report any blazes.

People are asked to avoid lighting fires in case others living near them have had their breathing affected due to the virus or have other respiratory problems that could be worsened by smoke.

Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) Sue Mountstevens is inviting local people to submit their questions concerning Covid-19 and the impact on policing to put to Chief Constable Andy Marsh.

The PCC wants local people to share their questions and concerns with her ahead of two Facebook Lives this week with the Chief Constable on Tuesday 31 March at 1.30pm and Friday 3 April at 1.30pm.

The first arrests have been made after police officers were spat on, coughed at and physically attacked, including one during an incident in Peasedown, across the Avon and Somerset Police force area overnight.

Ch Supt Carolyn Belafonte said any assault on officers of this nature were particularly abhorrent in light of the public health crisis the country is facing.
