Applications for Police Community Support Officers (PCSO) opened today, Tuesday 28 January. Avon and Somerset Police are inviting members of the public interested in a rewarding new career and giving back to their communities to apply for a position as a PCSO.

PCSOs are part of community police teams. As part of the neighbourhood policing team, they build relationships with local people to provide reassurance and understand the policing issues that matter most to them. PCSOs work with individuals and partner agencies to support vulnerable people and solve local concerns and issues.

Transport planners have released a revised version of ambitious proposals to transform how people move around the West of England.

Walking, cycling and public transport will become the "natural" way to travel around Bristol, South Gloucestershire, North Somerset and Bath and North East Somerset under the Joint Local Transport Plan published today (January 28).

About two years ago Radstock was invited to twin with a charming mediaeval fortress town in the south of France. Lançon-Provence is similar in size to Radstock but covers a much larger area and includes vineyards and olive groves in what is a mixed agricultural economy.

Many personal friendships arise from twinning programmes and I should like to invite residents of the area to consider joining in. They are planning an extravagant celebration in our honour, 21-24 May of this year and it would be a wonderful opportunity to spend time with them in their idyllic location.
