News in Midsomer Norton and Radstock

The fire service dealt with a vehicle fire on Common Lane in Holcombe this morning (January 21) which also damaged a nearby property. One fire engine from Shepton Mallet and a fire engine from Frome attended the incident.  On arrival crews confirmed one vehicle well alight which was in close proximity to a house and fence.  The vehicle was completely destroyed and the nearby property bungalow had windows broken and fascias, guttering and nearby shrubs scorched.  The fire, which it has been decided was accidental was put out using two hose reel jets and thermal imaging camera.

Radstock's Town Council was urged to recommend a local planning application for the well-respected Manor Farm Residential Home - which is not only right in the heart of the town but has an incredible history.

The Home asked back in 2014 to expland but the application was rejected because, as a Grade II listed building the development was believed too be too big and intrusive.

Following a ten-week consultation from September to December 2019, Bath & North East Somerset Council is proposing to publish a Care and Support Charging and Financial Assessment Framework setting out how decisions are made to make sure that people are allocated funding appropriate to their needs and in a way that is easy to understand.

The council met with 196 people at consultation sessions held across Bath & North East Somerset and the consultation's online survey received nearly 100 responses, broadly in favour of the council's proposals.

Radstock's wild and wonderful Haydon Batch is home to an amazing array of plants, butterflies and moths - but all could be threatened if dog fouling is not controlled - councillors were told last night (January 21).

A report from the Cam Valley Wildlife Group, presented at Radstock's Town Council meeting, described the stunning diversity of the nature reserve which is home to at least two threatened rare butterflies.
