News in Midsomer Norton and Radstock

Prattens Bowls Club are starting their new season this Easter weekend with the green opening on the afternoon of Saturday 16th April when anyone who is interested in playing bowls at the club is welcome to come along.

This is followed by he President's day game on the Sunday – in this case, the President in question is the Prattens President (Brian Weekes) and not the Somerset Bowls President (Barrie Dando) although he may well be there in his role as Prattens Chairman.

Winners, Runners Up and competitors at the BSGA National Trampoline Finals

Three Championship titles and two runner up titles were the amazing haul of gold and silver medals and trophies brought home by 10 students from Fish Trampoline Club at the British Schools Gymnastics Association National Trampoline Finals held in Macclesfield on 12th March 2022. The 550 students who qualified across the UK for these finals were the top competitors from the original 2500 who competed at the various regional qualifying competitions which had been held since October 2021.

Having been placed in the top 5 at the South West Regional qualifier, these Fish Trampoline Club students then placed in the top 5 at the Southern Zonal Championships to qualify for the National Finals in their various categories.

The winning Fosseway Golf Club team

Mendip Golf Club staged this year's Somerset Rose Bowl final, and Fosseway Golf Club ran out 3.5 to 1.5 winners over Isle of Wedmore.

Fosseway started well with Ben Josham and Chris Cozen winning 3 and 2. In the second match Isle of Wedmore levelled the game by beating the pairing of Gary Wilcox and Stephen Josham.

A Writhlington resident who worked tirelessly in the community, Keith Tyrrell, who now plays walking football, has been recognised for his effort in playing the game he loves,following major heart surgery in 2018.

The walking football team were contacted by Tom Moran,an England International player,who was writing a book on the sport,and asked for interesting stories from any players in the UK that could be considered to be included.

All Stars cricket returns to Midsomer Norton this week

Midsomer Norton Cricket Club's senior players returned to action earlier this month and younger players now have a chance to play the game for the first time in 2020.

Starting on Friday 24 July at 6.45pm, All Stars Cricket for children aged 5-8 years old will get under way for the first of six weekly, Friday evening sessions. To attend, all you need to do is to register at the ECB website by clicking here: the ECB site

After a tough Thursday night Somerset Cup fixture Midsomer Norton travelled to Clevedon for this rearranged Western Counties North league match.

Clevedon started off on the front foot proving strong early on, and it wasn't long until the home side broke the deadlock, a lapse in concentration in the Norton defence was quickly exploited as Clevedon shot down the blindside through their winger to take the lead, 7-0.
