George Persson and his two sons attended the Bristol Memory Walk in support of the Alzheimer's Society, raising £160 for the charity.

Alzheimer's is a terrible and debilitating disease which is sadly increasing in terms of the numbers of individuals affected. It also can have a profound effect on family and friends striving to support their loved one.

As the head of the Wills + Probate department, George has all too often seen the devastating effects of this disease not only on the one suffering, but also their families, which is why he walked to raise money for The Alzheimer's Society.

George stated: "Alzheimer's awareness and support is a cause very close to my heart both professionally and personally. I have seen first-hand how Alzheimer's places an upset and worry on the shoulders of spouses, adult children friends and family members.

I always recommend having a Lasting Power of Attorney put in place, no matter what age. As the numbers of people suffering mental degenerative diseases increase I see a range of families struggling to access money and property held by the Alzheimer's sufferer. A Lasting Power of Attorney, if put in place whilst the individual is deemed to have mental capacity makes the process of decision making on behalf of the sufferer much more straight forward.

Lasting Powers of Attorney are not just for the elderly either. They are a fantastic way to ensure that if anyone has any mental capacity issues in the near or far future, that their Attorneys are able to access what is needed to support the sufferer and their family.

If someone already has Alzheimer's, then Deputyship would need to be explored as an alternative option and this can often be more expensive and complex than getting a Lasting Power of Attorney put in place prior to diminishment of mental a capacity."

We are proud to offer free no-obligation initial advice on a range of matters including Lasting Powers of Attorney and Deputyship. To book an appointment simply call us, email us or contact us through our website.

Alternatively we provide advice on the above at our free legal advice surgery, which takes place every Thursday from 5pm – 6pm. No appointment necessary, just turn up.
