12-year-old boy assaulted in Midsomer Norton: witness appeal launched
Authorities have launched a witness appeal following an assault on a young boy in the St Chads Green area of Midsomer Norton.
The incident occurred last week, leaving the 12-year-old victim with facial injuries.
The assault took place at approximately 6:20 p.m. on Wednesday, May 17. The victim was chased and subsequently attacked by another youth of a similar age. The altercation escalated when the assailant punched and kicked the young boy. Although the victim suffered facial bruising and swelling, medical treatment at a hospital was not necessary.
PC Gemma Fry, the investigating officer, described the incident as a particularly vicious assault. She assured the public that an investigation is currently underway, and a boy, who does not reside in the local area, is scheduled to attend a voluntary police interview.
She added: "We are aware mobile phone footage was captured at the time. We have a copy of it and it will assist us with our ongoing enquiries.
"However, we would please ask all members of the public not to share it on social media as we have a duty of care to the victim and would not want the wider dissemination of that footage to impact on any potential future legal proceedings."
In response to the incident, the local neighbourhood team has been alerted to support proactive patrol efforts in the area, ensuring the safety of residents and deterring further incidents.
Authorities are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the assault or possesses information related to the incident to come forward.
Witnesses can contact the police at 101, quoting reference number 5223115040.
