A local care home has confirmed that it has cases of coronavirus - but as yet no deaths.

The large Bloomfield Care Centre, one of the largest care facilities run by Barchester, with a total of 102 beds, has offered up a statement in response to speculation on social media.

The company said: " We can confirm that we have had three positive test results for COVID-19 and two recent deaths that are unrelated to COVID-19.

"We are confident in the processes in our home with all of our staff trained in infection control, and our staff have been brilliant in implementing this. We take the safety and wellbeing of our residents and staff very seriously and we are following public health authority advice and have been supplied with the appropriate personal protection equipment (PPE).

"Please be reassured that our staff are trained in this practice, and we are confident that the right procedures will be followed to keep everyone as safe and well as possible."

The Care centre, which is in Paulton has many local staff working at the site which cares for many elderly people including two centres on site dedicated to those suffering from dementia."

When contacted by Nub News on April 13 the manager was unable to comment on any news from the home.

The Head Office of Barchester Care, which manages the centre, described as 'Good' in its latest CQC report, said it put the safety of residents and staff at the centre of all it does.

Rumours about the care centre and others in the BA3 area began circulating on social media on April 13.

At the coronavirus government briefing on April 13 Chief Medical Officer Chris Whitty said that 13.5 per cent of the UK's 11,300 care homes have now confirmed a case of the virus.
