Anita Harris, who grew up in Midsomer Norton and starred in two Carry On movies, has secured a major role in a UK tour of the musical Cabaret.

Harris will play Fraulein Schneider in the forthcoming tour, alongside Kara Lily Hayworth as Sally Bowles and John Partridge as Emcee.

This production of Kander and Ebb's musical has choreography by Javier de Frutos and will be directed by Rufus Norris.

Probably the most famous stars in this musical in recent years was Will Young, who played Emcee.

Harris was born and grew up in Midsomer Norton and she appeared in the Carry On films Follow That Camel and Carry On Doctor.

She also sang with the Cliff Adams Singers and had a number of chart hits in the 1960s including Just Loving You.

The new tour of Cabaret opens at the Churchill Theatre in Bromley from August 28. The tour will then continue on to Wolverhampton, Nottingham, Crawley, Chester, Dublin, Belfast, Leicester, Shrewsbury, Hull, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Malvern, Peterborough, Sunderland, Oxford, Wimbledon, Manchester, Leeds, Canterbury, Sheffield, Cardiff and Stoke, with further dates and venues still to be announced.

The iconic musical features songs including Money Makes the World Go Round, Maybe This Time and Two Ladies.

Set in 1930s Germany, it charts the rise of fascism alongside the artistic outburst in Berlin.
