Coronavirus update: Midsomer Norton offers advice, clarification and a buy early for Christmas

Midsomer Norton is coming to terms with the news that it has become the centre of a hyper local outbreak of coronavirus, as one of the local footballers tested positive.

On the High Street the local shop has put up adverts for Christmas cards; quipping that it may be best to buy ahead if the town goes into lockdown.

That however currently seems unlikely with the Public Health Team at B&NES relying on several measures to contain the outbreak.

They include:

- Stopping any visitors going into any local care homes

- The local universities limiting to 20 per cent the number of students in face to face learning at any one time, reducing the numbers travelling by bus.

Dr Elizabeth Hersch from St Chad's Surgery in Midsomer Norton has posted an NHS video urging patients to follow the medical advice and redouble efforts on social distancing, hand-washing and other measures to help prevent the spread of Covid-19.

The B&NES team has been asked for the precise numbers of figures for positive coronavirus tests locally. We will bring you those when we have them.

Meanwhile the Secretary of Welton Rovers has explained why the player who tested positive for coronavirus lead the whole team to isolate, even though he was on the bench with an injury.

Gareth Paisley posted in reply to a comment on a Midsomer Norton Nub News posting. A reader asked why they had been forced to isolate when he wasn't even playing. He explained: " Because the player was present with the group at another location, other than West Clewes. Not all club activity takes place in Midsomer Norton. "

As reported yesterday the club has had one positive case and has put its first team, and anyone who came into possible contact with the player, into quarantine.

The team last played Keynsham on August 22 and Midsomer Norton Nub News contacted to ask if any players on their squad had tested positive. They replied: " COVID Officers are in communication with Welton Rovers and the FA but no players have reported positive at this stage."
