Delay in the bagging area : Fury as this Midsomer Norton spot is also proving very attractive to seagulls

By Susie Watkins 4th Jun 2023

The development of a key site in Midsomer Norton, the former bag factory, is causing extra fury for those living close to the derelict area because it is proving so popular with seagulls.

Work should already be underway on new homes, a care home and a new shop at the former Welton Bibby and Baron factory site on Station Road.

Two years ago a representative from the developers said it was now "crunch time" for the planning application, which has been in the offing for several years. HERE

But just now just two objections to how close one of the part of the redevelopment would be to the road has, Nub News understands, meant back to the drawing board for the plans. And that in turn means the site, on Station Road in Midsomer Norton, remains a perfect spot for nesting sea gulls.

And that is - well a four letter word - for people with their washing out and cars parked nearby.

However some good news for those frustrated at having to clean their cars, again and again. The latest from April this year, and plans and timescales for demolishing at least part of the site have now gone into planners and comments are now closed. As you can see with this seagull-eyed view of the site, from the air and on the planning pages, there is a lot of space to cover.

However before homeowners get too excited about a wrecking ball coming in very soon, the latest ecology report on the planning site, says more detail is needed about a different kind of possible inhabitant - bats. Planners want more detailled bat surveys for those buildings proposed for demolition that instruction given out on May 12.

You can see what they want and what the want to know more about HERE

Part of the site, was also formerly a brewery and part of the delay was to get the boundary of this made of stone, not railings, thereby causing less heritage harm to the conservation area.
