End of the line - dreams of reviving a rail link from Radstock to Frome seem to have disappeared

In case you missed this one, the team behind the push to re-instate the rail line between Radstock and Frome has been disbanded.

Nub News profiled the plan to get the line running again here, a plan which could have seen Radstock residents able to get to London by connecting across to Westbury in a matter of a few hours. But the plans sadly hit a block when the line was not considered as part of the national drive to re-instate closed down lines.

Then at a trustees meeting held at the end of February this year, the project group who had been pushing the regeneration, announced that they were unable to get any new blood into the organisation.. They held that meeting on 25 February and it was decided by all Trustees and one member to close the Trust down.

The team posted : " We have tried to get new trustees on board but with no success. I would like to thank all involved over the years for their help."

The Radstock to Frome Railway Trust and the Radstock to Frome Railway Project was a charitable organisation with the primary aim of reopening of the redundant railway line between Radstock and Great Elm (near Frome), with the aspiration at a later stage to extend the railway back to Frome junction and reconnect with the national rail network.

It was a community interest venture and its ambitions and hopes were high : " Radstock is a town has a fine industrial heritage and a bright future ahead. The Radstock to Frome Railway Trust is committed to assisting the opening of the railway as a valuable resource for the community. A designated section of the former railway land (inside Area 3) has been set aside for the possible reinstatement of a rail link there. Our organisation will maximise Radstock's potential as a tourist destination, situated between and near the historic cities of Bath and Wells, and play an instrumental part in reviving the local economy. "

Back in October 2014 the Somer-Rail Trust was registered by the Charity Commission ( number 1158749) to push the project on but as of today that charity, while still active, has just £40 to its name.
