It is only interim (and the final total will not be known until September) but it looks like it was an exceptional generous year for the Midsomer Norton poppy appeal.

They have counted the coppers and noted the notes and they made a grand total of £20,790.75.

That was made of up over £17,600 in cash and cheques.

The Royal British Legion team would like to thank everyone who donated. They said: " Words can never convey the real meaning of Thank You and the Branch couldn't do it without the input of everyone, however small a part you think you played.

" Not only do we wish to thank all the volunteers, but also the generosity of the people of Midsomer Norton, Radstock and the surrounding area."

They added: " Without the volunteers, we could not collect. Without the people we would not collect anything."
