Planning news in and around Midsomer Norton this week.

The former Clandown Stores in Radstock which as Nub News reported closed its doors on November 26, has applied to turn the shop area and cellar into additional house space. The site at 1 Fosse Way, in Clandown,

(Under reference 21/05513/FUL) stopped being a post office back in 2008.

An application is in for Flat 7, Midsomer Apartments, 36 Chilcompton Road, in Midsomer Norton, (under reference 21/05353/FUL)

to make the dormer window at the rear of the property, wider. An application is in to make Radstock Delivery Office accessible to all customers. In the application it is revealed that the three-storey building constructed of stone was made in 1820. Under 21/05542/FUL there are details on how they want to install a PARS Ramp to the customer service entrance where there are currently two steps. Should it be successful the builders will also be doing what they describe as " reactive maintenance works to the delivery office." In Peasedown, a resubmission of an original application 36 Naishes Avenue, (under 21/05622/FUL) is in to build a two storey side extension and single storey rear extension. Over in Paulton the owners of 23 Brookside Close, (under

21/05461/VAR) have applied for the variation of condition 1 (Plans List) of application 21/00773/FUL (which is for the building of an extension and internal alterations to provide additional bedrooms (Retrospective) (Revised application).

In planning decisions made this week by B&NES:

There is no objection an application to fell a Cherry tree behind garages at 10 Fosse Way, Clandown.

Planners have agreed to a two year extension for the siting of a mobile home at Braysdown Stables, Gassons, in Peasedown St. John. Planners were told that the home was needed for an essential worker.

There is no objection to an application to fell a Leyland Cypress at Inisfree, West Road, Welton, Midsomer Norton.

And Midsomer Norton County Primary School, on the High Street has had a series of tree works agreed. Specifically they want to prune back from a street lamp a Tilia, prune back from the building boundary, and sever a climbing plant. Fell, and plant a replacement for a Betula Pendula/ Remove major dead wood and reduce the crown by 20% and with the Juglans Regia, remove the major dead wood.

They have also applied to prune a Prunus, fell an Acer Campestre, prune a Sorbus Aucuparia and fell a Sorbus Aria. No objection to the plans.

And in Paulton, at Downsway, there is no objection to plans to move an electricity pole, and reposition it onto the opposite verge. The existing overhead lines will be removed and replaced with an underground cable.
