Huge increase in private waste collections expected this weekend
The company which can take excess waste from Midsomer Norton addresses has reported a huge increase in demand for its services under lockdown.
The van collection service Skoup, part of the Biffa group, has reported an increase nationwide of almost 25% for the bag, van and skip it service. They reported a big spike over the Easter weekend and are expected more demand now, with this bank holiday weekend. The most common items they are asked to collect are TV monitors, fridge-freezers and mattresses.Skoup has seen over a 100% increase in the number they collected as part of their van collection service during March.
Fridge-freezers and tv monitors have seen a two-fold increase in disposal over the period, with Birmingham coming top of the counties throwing away the most fridges.
Guy Maddock, Group Head of Marketing at Biffa said: "Having extra time on your hands gives people the perfect excuse to clean their homes and get rid of all of the extra rubbish which has been cluttering up flats and houses."
The demand has been so high that their online 'bag it' service, a service which offers to collect bin bags from people's homes, has nearly doubled the amount of specific areas they cover.
