As Nub News reported the budget for the town is under scrutiny - and the money which will in part determine the local council tax is up for discussion.

Midsomer Town Council will consider the budget at the Full Council on the 6th February with the numbers now on the web site HERE

The Council has written that it will "welcome comments from the community."

They write:

The draft precept the Council will be requesting from B&NES is £498,961which equates to £122.40 per week for a band D property, £2.35 per week.

What this means for you is a rise of £16.59 per year, 30p per week.

The increases in the budget relate mainly to but not inclusive of the following:

A lease van for the Town Warden – As approved in the Full Council meeting on 6th October, the budget covers the cost of the lease of the Wardens van and associated costs. This is a new cost to the Council to enable the Warden to carry out the job required.

Youth Services – Increased to £25,000 due to the funding for the youth provision in town being cut by B&NES.

Christmas Lights – Increased to £10,000 which is part of the £18,000 requested by B&NES due to B&NES being unable to fund the Christmas tree and requiring a contribution towards the lights as in previous years due to new contracts being placed and no increase in the B&NES budget.

Street Marshals – Increase of £6,000 to cover the new contract with Midas for Street Marshals on a Friday and Saturday evening.
