IN PICTURES: A Remembrance Sunday like no other

No parades, no big march pasts, but still lots of poignancy as locals remembered and paid tribute to those who paid the ultimate sacrifice today (November 8).

The Royal British Legion had requested that members pay their respects on their doorsteps, but in Midsomer Norton scores of people still turned out at the War Memorial.

At 11:00 GMT the annual two-minute silence was held across the UK with scaled back services in London and elsewhere.

The commemorations remember the armed forces community, British and Commonwealth veterans, the allies who fought alongside the UK and the civilian servicemen and women involved in the two world wars and later conflicts.

Downing Street said Remembrance Sunday events could go ahead despite the national lockdown in England, so long as they were outdoors, with social distancing.

The RBL has also asked that people more than ever support their 2020 Poppy Appeal.

They said: "With thousands of poppy collectors unable to sell poppies locally and many fundraising events cancelled, we are relying on the British public to give as generously as possible this year."
