Correction: Since this article was published we have been informed that our original report was incorrect, due to a misunderstanding of roles of the Midsomer Trust and the Community Trust.

Specifically Nub News wrote that 'Midsomer Norton Community Town Trust (sic) has said it will be approaching High Street traders about support, in early 2023'.

The Trust said: " This is obviously met with some surprise and derision by traders - indeed myself and others at the Community Trust are extremely surprised. We have not said this and we are not offering 'business support' in the new year, mainly because this is not our field. This is false. "

The information came from a social media post but this was in reference only to planning a community event for next Christmas.

Nub News was basing our report on information which was not accurate and have edited this report.

News that the Chamber of Commerce in Midsomer Norton, is officially being wound down, has led several from the business community in the town to contact Midsomer Norton Nub News to express concerns about what is being done to support the commercial side of the town.

One asked why in the lead up to Christmas, the town did not take part in Small Business Saturday when shoppers are encouraged to visit their local shops.

One reason given was that business support and promotion will be forthcoming but not until the New Year.

But this was disappointing for one who contacted us: " I strongly believe our High Street should be supported in the run up to Christmas, what should be their busiest time of the year and yet nothing is happening."

Nub News has been sent a lengthy email trail of repeated requests to B&NES, asking for business support.

But any help in 2023 is too late, said one who contacted Nub News.

Another business owner expressed surprise that nothing seemed to be happening this year specifically to boost businesses. They told us : "There needs to be a call to action. The businesses need to come together because no one will do it for them."

Midsomer Norton is one of the High Street Heritage Action Zones along with Keynsham. In Keynsham they have been working on the Temple Street Improvement Project is part of their HAZ program.

B&NES was creating a new online Keynsham Business Directory and launch a 'shop local' campaign in partnership with Keynsham Town Council to promote the local area and support local businesses.

Update: Since this story was published another trader has been in touch with Midsomer Norton Nub News saying :

"We have been speaking to some of the new businesses who are so enthusiastic and are passionate about this High Street. They are a bit annoyed that there has been no welcome from the town council and really don't know who to be in contact with. We have been left to fend for ourselves. "
