The Midsomer and Radstock MP talks about the work of the advice bureau

In his latest column, Jacob Rees Mogg MP writes:

Last week, Her Royal Highness, Princess Anne, the Princess Royal, visited the Bath and North East Somerset Citizens' Advice Bureau (CAB).

It was both an honour and a worthy tribute for the CAB to be visited by the Princess Royal, who made the visit as patron of The National Association of Citizens' Advice Bureaux, a position that she has held since 1990.

The duties undertaken by Princess Anne in support of the CAB for the past thirty years have been invaluable as they aid the work of an organisation that helps those who have no where else to turn. The CAB volunteers provide expert advice and assist hundreds of constituents each year, providing an enormous amount of support to those who find themselves in difficult positions.

The Princess' tireless work on behalf of the CAB constitutes just a small part of her remarkable charitable efforts, with charity being something that is so important to the Royal Family.

The concept of the CAB originated in 1935 when the government considered the 'need for an information service linked to the fledgling social welfare service.' It was then decided that, in the face of the breakout of war, that Citizens' Advice Bureaux ought to be set up throughout the United Kingdom, particularly in large cities and industrial areas. By 4th September 1939, the first 200 bureaux had opened and now over 14 million people use face to face and digital services.

If you would like to contact the CAB in North East Somerset, please telephone: 0344 848 7919 or visit: the One Stop Shop, Manvers St, Bath BA1 1JQ. Otherwise, my office is always here to help: 0207 219 7118.
