Jacob Rees Mogg makes an appearance at Midsomer Norton Town Hall
With one week to go, all the general election candidates have been out and about, including the elusive Jacob Rees Mogg. The Conservative candidate, who is defending a 10,000 plus majority, appeared at the hustings at Midsomer Norton Town Hall. But he avoided the press outside the hall by coming in through a back door, his place taken at the front by one of his team with his coat hood up.
The other candidate who did not appear was the Independent candidate Shaun Hughes, while the remaining three candidates waited for nearly an hour for Jacob Rees Mogg to appear. He was asked questioned submitted to listeners to the local radio station Somer Valley and the hustings, which were closed to the media, was directed by Dom Chambers. Questioned submitted included:'I work at an FE college with some of the most vulnerable young people in the NES area.Could the candidates reassure me and the young people I work with that these vital services will be properly funded and made available to them again and tell us how this is going to be delivered in NES? '
Another question sent in to the station was from a Midsomer resident who asked candidates how they Intend to go about restoring confidence in politicians and the nation's political system as a whole.
