Midsomer Norton residents trying to get a coronavirus test have been saying how the system is trying to send them 59 miles away.

With no appointments offered by the mobile site currently at the football club in Paulton, they are not even being offered the other next-nearest site at Bristol Airport.

Instead people have been on social media saying that in trying to get a test they have been advised to go the centre in Cardiff a drive of over na hour and a half.

On the government web site there is currently a warning : This service is currently very busy. If you cannot get a test now, or the location or time are not convenient, try again in a few hours.

One exasperated local posted on social media: " How on earth do I make an appointment to get the virus test done at the mobile unit Paulton ?"

Others advised the original poster to try for a postal test but these were reportedly also all out.

The government stock of postal tests is refreshed every few hours from 8am and the family were finally able to order one via post.

Yesterday (September 6) the government announced 2,988 new cases of coronavirus - the highest figure since 22 May.

Demand for local testing has already led to the mobile testing unit at Paulton being extended for a second time.
