Few local residents will recall a year gone by without Kilmersdon Village Day marking the start of summer. Held on the late May bank holiday of every year,

Kilmerdon residents have celebrated their village by hosting an annual fête, featuring attractions such as local bands, a dog show, craft and cake stalls. Traditionally, the celebration involved villagers creating a scarecrow trail for families and visitors to hunt throughout the day.

Kilmersdon Village Day has been such a long standing tradition that parents will recall coming along when they themselves were children, yet the beauty and atmosphere in the village has not changed in all those years. The Village Day offers local residents a fun and enjoyable day out with their friends and families.

This tradition has continued every year until 2019, when to the disappointment of so many, the event could not go ahead. The hard work and cost of running these events is ever increasing and despite all efforts, the Village Day was cancelled for the first time in decades.

Determined not to see the end of a much loved celebration, a new team of volunteers have been pulling out all the stops to ensure that Kilmersdon Village Day 2020 will go ahead, no matter what. The event is planned for 25 May 2020 and is set to be a resounding success.

This, though, is where the organisers need your help. Emma Wollacott, secretary of the Kilmersdon Village Day committee explained: " We have had some very generous offers of support so far, and would like to thank all of those individuals and businesses who have helped us to get where we are.

"There is still a shortage of volunteers on the day and we would also been very keen to hear from local businesses, who may wish to sponsor parts of the event as an opportunity to publicise their business on the day.

"To mark the return of the Village Day, we are also hosting the return of the traditional scarecrow trail, which many will recall with great affection from years gone by. The more scarecrows the merrier and we are still looking for entries to the trail, for which the best scarecrow will win a prize."

If anyone is interested in volunteering at or sponsoring part of the event, or entering a scarecrow into the trail, please contact Emma on 07715 180 133 or by email at [email protected].

The organisers look forward to seeing you all on 25 May!
