Despite the second lockdown, outdoor markets have been given permission by the government to continue trading during November, selling food, drink and plants. If anyone missed the busy Somerset Farmers' Market at The Hollies in Midsomer Norton last Saturday, then the great news is that this coming Saturday, 14th November, the markets will be running in nearby Keynsham and Frome.

Louise Hall is the organiser of the Somerset Farmers' Markets.

'I know that many of the readers of Nub News actually live nearer the markets at Keynsham and Frome than they do to the monthly market at The Hollies,' says Louise. 'The market last week in Norton was a big success, so if you have never been to a Farmers' Market before this is definitely the time to do so. It is certainly a great deal safer to be shopping in the open air rather than inside.'

At all of the Somerset Farmers' Markets events, the organisers have been working hard to ensure that the experience is both a safe and an enjoyable one.

'We are making sure that the queuing system at the stalls is clearer to follow with the help of cones and hazard tape,' adds Louise. 'Only one customer or household group is allowed at a stall at any one time. The wearing of face coverings is strongly recommended and it goes without saying that anyone with the coronavirus symptoms should of course stay away.'

The markets are sponsored by local solicitors Thatcher + Hallam. Lucy Ingram is head of Commercial Property and Business Law at the firm.

'This remains a very challenging time for all our great local farmers and producers,' says Lucy. 'Support from the community makes a real difference to local businesses, who work so hard. If you are able to, then pop on down to the markets at Frome or Keynsham if you live nearby. Alternatively, the next market in Midsomer Norton is on Saturday 5th December.

At the time of going to press, the final list of producers for Frome this Saturday is still awaited. At Keynsham, although the craft and charity stalls have had to be cancelled, the usual great line up will be there including Root Connections, Humble Pie and The Wicked Chilli. The Keynsham market will also be joined by an additional local plant nursery 'Gardens of Japan' who specialise in unusual acers, cyclamen and heathers great for unusual Christmas gifts.

The markets at both Keynsham and Frome run between 9am and 1pm every second Saturday of the month. There is good parking near to both venues. The Keynsham market takes place at The Market Walk and in Frome the event is currently held on the patio area adjacent to the Cheese & Grain.
