News just come in and the application to bring McDonald's to the High Street in Midsomer Norton has been withdrawn.

There doesn't appear to be any reasoning why this has been done, only that B&NES have acknowledged that the planners have been formally notified that it is no longer active.

The notification is short on details, simply stating that, plans for the empty building at 32 High Street, Midsomer Norton which were put in on behalf of the company for a " Change of use from Class E to restaurant and takeaway (Sui Generis), with associated works to the car park and elevations.... ....has been formally withdrawn. "

No one seems to know why, but one local councillor told Nub News they were gutted.

There had been a large number of formal objections to McDonald's moving in, but up until last week the plans for noise and littering details were still being put into the planning department by the company.

You can see the letter from March 14 under reference: 23/03656/FUL

Nub News has contacted the company to find out more.
