It doesn't get any formal donor money or charity funds, but the food and other essentials bank in the heart of Midsomer Norton is still flourishing one year on from when it started.

Although it is great that the community pantry is celebrating a successful first year - thanks to the generosity of key local individuals and companies - it is of course a source of regret that it is so well used.

The volunteers who run it say that they have seen an increased demand on the pantry, but they never ask why or who uses it and believe that at least 15 local families have been invited to use the store over the last seven months.

One of the organisers Kate Turner told Nub News what has surprised her most on the one year anniversary is simply the amount of help they have been given.

She said: " The amount of support form the local community has been outstanding. The church helps us of course, and we have regular donors so that is wonderful, we don't get any formal funds but the community have really backed what we are doing so we are not having to go in search of charity grants - yet .

" On the months that we are getting low on stock on the pantry, we just put out an appeal on our Facebook page and it is always met above and beyond with donations."

: Big thanks to Rebellion Design

: They are very grateful to Juejue who runs charity bingo in Chilcompton

: The local Tesco's for regular donations.

Finally of course all the people of Midsomer Norton who have donated vouchers and goods that have made the community pantry work.

The rules of the pantry are that there are no rules: If it is there and you need it, you can have it. It doesn't matter of the monetary value of the item, if you are on your own or a family. You do not need to be referred or asked, it is open for everyone in need.

The pantry is always happy welcome normal pantry stock items, so dried goods such as cereals, but they would also welcome baby and personal care items and such as sanitary towels.

" It has been a wonderful year thank you to everyone."
