The push to get people to give up knives and for people to act more responsibly around weapons has concluded but the numbers of knives collected has not yet been released.

Last year Operation Sceptre, a national police campaign intensifying efforts to tackle knife crime, resulted in 311 fewer weapons on the streets of Avon and Somerset.

The neighbourhood police were keen to stress the message that while 99% of people don't carry a knife, some people feel that carrying a weapon is a way of keeping themselves safe. In fact, carrying a knife puts you in danger, it does not protect you.

Radstock and Keynsham community police officers did sweeps around Paulton to find weapons and also went into the community to visit local shops including Proper Job in Radstock.

PCSO's Louise and Tony visited shops in the Radstock area to talk about the responsibility of selling bladed articles. Radstock's Proper Job regularly carry out staff training sessions in relation to the selling of bladed articles to the public.
