This was the scene in Radstock this morning (August 1) with investigation teams working at the area alongside the library into what is understood to have been the fatal stabbing of a 16 year old boy.

Police have yet to confirm any details of the incident but it is understood that the teenager was stabbed in the walkway between the Radstock Library and the Children's Centre. It reportedly happened at 18:40 yesterday evening.

Meantime the whole area is still cordoned off and the local bus service has stopped any services to the stops at Victoria Hall. These have been suspended until further notice. Forensic officers are at the scene and officers are at the end of the road redirecting traffic.

The local football club led tributes to the victim posting on Sunday evening: " Our thoughts and prayers are with the friends and family affected by the incident in Radstock tonight."

While social media posts have talked about a funny lively young lad and the fact that such a shocking crime would forever be in the hearts and minds of the community.

Many of the posts were about friends of the victim. One parent posting : " Too sad for words. My daughter is in utter shock, having been a friend… the shockwaves will resonate far and wide and forever more."

In May Avon and Somerset police took part in Operation Sceptre, a national police campaign intensifying efforts to tackle knife crime, resulting in 311 fewer weapons on the streets of Avon and Somerset.

There is also an ongoing local knife amnesty which Radstock Nub News reported about HERE back in November 2020 when officers showed us one of the knives that had been handed in to the local station.
