Radstock Mayor : Taking stock after six months of coronavirus

In his latest column for Nub News the Radstock Mayor writes:

We are well into the sixth month of what is becoming the 'Corona Year,' so time for some reflection.

How has Radstock fared? Things could have been a lot worse, had it not been for the perspicacity of residents.

Quite early on groups began to form of people who were prepared to give their time to assist those unable to visit shops. Others volunteered to cook and deliver hot food under the aegis of the Big Local and the Trussell Trust.

Other groups made impressive efforts to clean up the town. After several litter picking exercises, Radstock is now looking very clean indeed. It is complimented by the hanging baskets which line the shopping streets and cheer us up with splashes of pink and purple; a great achievement by Sean Fletcher and his team.

The Miner's Memorial Garden is imaginatively planted with tough but colourful herbaceous perennials. For the many venturing out after shielding it has been a welcome bonus.

Before long we will see the newly restored rail signals in place outside the surgery. I've enjoyed a sneak preview and can assure you that they are a fitting commemoration to the days when Radstock was a railway town.

It has been good to see Tom Huyton Park open once again, together with the various play parks in the area. Southfields is a picture too and will look even better when the new fencing is constructed.

Thanks to everyone who has contribute to making our town clean and inviting.
