Radstock Town Council are considering the purchase of Trinity Methodist Church with some early costings showing whether it can be financially viable and sustainable.

At their big meeting on Monday councillors will look at some of the early prices for buying the church which has been at the heart of Radstock for over 120 years. The council designated it as a special asset for the town, so that they could have time to see if it could be protected from being sold on, potentially for development.

Some positive news for the possibility of the church being 'saved' has been revealed in the agenda for Monday with Bath Spa University linked with Bath and North East Somerset Council are exploring Trinity as a "Hub" for Arts and Culture.

But there is a warning that the church will need work, and one way could be for Radstock Town Council to take out a loan for a third of a million pounds.

Funding break down could be:

a. Grants B&NES have identified £8,000 of funding from the regeneration fund that can be allocated. B&NES are also supporting further grant applications some of which have already been identified.

b. Reserves The earmarked reserve '327 EMR Developments' of £123,000 could be utilised.

c. Public Works Loan A £300,000 loan to support the purchase could be obtained by the Town Council

The meeting on Monday - at the church - is open to all and starts at 7pm. This is the postponed meeting from September due to the national period of mourning.
