Children from Shoscombe Church School recently paid a visit to the Bristol Museum and Art Gallery as part of a 'fact finding' trip about ancient Egypt.

The children, who study and learn about a range of cultures and traditions as part of their curriculum, spent a whole day exploring what the impressive centre has to offer.

Headteacher, Ruth Noall, said: "Years 3 and 4 impressed Bristol Museum staff with their knowledge on ancient Egypt.

"They took part in an exciting workshop where they learnt about the artefacts that were explored by Bristolian, Amelia Edwards, and tried to determine which site she had found them. They used their archaeological skills, which they had learnt in school, to help them with this.

"They then independently toured the Egyptian galleries and added to their knowledge on life in ancient Egypt. Thank you to all the staff who made us feel so welcome during our visit. We very much appreciated it."

Bristol Museum & Art Gallery has a range of collections, including geology, Eastern art, Bristol's history, including English delftware. In January 2012 it became one of sixteen Arts Council England Major Partner Museums.

The museum includes sections on natural history as well as local, national and international archaeology. The art gallery contains works from all periods, including many by internationally famous artists, as well a collection of modern paintings of Bristol.
