Tickets Please is a film made by older people about their memories of the train.

The Golden Memories film crew project was funded through a grant from Great Western Railway and the film crew has been supported by students from Bath Spa University. No one within the group had made a film before and this has been a new experience for them.

The crew has worked with Creativity Works, the community arts charity based in Radstock, groups from Age UK Banes and Bath Ethnic Minority Sr. Citizens Assoc. BEMSCA)

The project, which has the support of internationally acclaimed film director Ken Loach, has received a £15,000 grant from Great Western Railway.

Mr Loach will support Bath City Football Club Foundation in its goal to produce a special film highlighting the historical and social value of the railway.

The filmmaker said:  "Most of us have early memories of train journeys. What better way to share them than by recording them on film? This is a great project by the foundation. I look forward to hearing the stories. Maybe I'm not the only kid who got told off for lowering the carriage window on its old leather strap."

As part of GWR's franchise agreement with the Department for Transport, the train operator has a Communities and Education Programme to assist schools, colleges, community, and other not-for-profit organisations.

The Foundation uses the power of football to engage with hard-to-reach groups, improving older people's physical and mental wellbeing and for this project is working in partnership with Creativity Works, an arts charity, and Age UK B&NES.

Operations Manager Mandy Gardner said: "The railway has always been central to the lives of people living within our area and the film will include memories of the key role that the railway played in daily life, sporting life and working life.

"Producing the film will give our users a sense of purpose and meaningfulness, as well as showcasing the support available through GWR to older people who have mobility problems and who want to use the train."

The project follows work with the University of Bath aimed at reducing digital isolation among older people. Now the foundation aims to develop a team of filmmakers who can be accessed by other community groups and charities across Bath and North East Somerset.

GWR Community Manager Emma Morris said: "We're delighted to support this Bath City Football Club Foundation project, which will engage with older people and enrich their skills, while at the same time encouraging use of the railway. If it can help to give them a greater sense of freedom and confidence that has to be a good thing."
