Locals are saying that plans to convert the former Argos store into one of a chain of gyms has halted.

The gym was due to be part of the national Gym Limited group which Nub News has approached for comment, but there are rumours that additional problems were found in the building structure.

Plans for the conversion were made nearly a year ago when there was an application for a change of use. This was granted along with works to convert the building with minor amendments to elevations including alterations to building entrance, replacement of existing shutter and associated works, installation of external plant and enclosure in relation to use as Class E Gym. The former Argos store, now housed inside Sainsbury's, is actually in the Midsomer Norton Conservation Area.

Then also in September the application was made to put up signs for the new gym at 32 High Street - again passed - but no signs have been put up and the building, when we went there on April 10, was shuttered up.
