Veteran charity in Midsomer Norton desperately needs extra volunteers

By Susie Watkins 9th Dec 2019

A valued and important local charity for veterans, and their families, is hoping to get more volunteers, along with more donations, as it expands its services in Midsomer Norton. Forces Online has a drop in centre and shop at their current site on the top floor of Holly Court. It was started in Midsomer in 2014 by Len Chappell, but he has to travel a long way to be there, so he really needs local help. It moved to the court in 2018 and has new expanded opening hours - Monday and Tuesdays from 10 am until 5pm, Wednesdays from 10am until 3pm, Thursdays until 5pm and then Fridays until 4pm.

Len said: " We are still looking for volunteers to do a variety of things from working in the thrift shop to helping us on line." The service provides help of all kinds, including just being a listening ear. Ex forces in the UK suffer, often alone, from many problems, from struggling with financial worries, to poor mental health. A recent nationwide report found that out of an NHS budget of more than £150 billion, less than £10 million a year (0.007%) was spent on mental health services specifically for veterans.

Anyone who thinks they can help can call Len 07826163001 or email him on [email protected].

Forces Online is a Community Interest Company, that is not for profit, but is close to become a fully fledged charity. More details about the group and how they help at : https://www.forcesonline.org.uk/
