WANTED : Anyone who would like to be another voice on the local community radio station - and as an added bonus you get to learn how to make a radio show.

Award-winning Midsomer Norton based radio station Somer Valley FM is looking for some new presenters and don't panic, you will get all the training you need.

What are they looking for ? Anyone who would like to give it a go, perhaps with something they would like to say, and is willing to reach out to the local community.

Station Manager of Somer Valley FM Richard Burgess told Nub News that they are open to everyone and anyone: " Perhaps people who have families and children at school who have some spare time during the day. And who would like to come and learn how to present at a radio station. That is it really - simple. "

He reassured anyone a bit fearful of a radio mixing desk: " You will be fully trained. We won't just leave you here and walk away leaving you to your own devices. First of all we will show you around the station, then you can get used to hearing your own voice (on air) which I know a lot of people are wary of. "

The station has three fully equipped studios and already has a rota of 56 volunteers, but they want to spread the broadcasting message. If you do decide to join them, you will be taught how to make a broadcast and will be given some ready made content, including a possible playlist, ideas for links in and out of the records. You just need a voice.

Richard adds: " We want some of their personality in the show as well, it gives people a chance to broadcast across North East Somerset, perhaps pick up some local news stories, some things that matter to the community. Talk about things that matter to them. "

Somer Valley FM (97.5 FM and on demand) recently rejigged its schedule with new programmes and increased local content - for and by local ears. One of those Nub News caught up with was Brunch presenter Nigel Stiff, broadcasting mellow vibes to the mid morning listeners. Full of enthusiasm and goodwill - right until it comes to listening to endless repeats of Maria Carey !

Final promise from Richard: " Get in touch, come along, and see what we are about. See if you like what we do and if you want to progress onto air, great, but if you don't, that's fine too. Just give it a go."
