Staff and children at St Julian's School in Wellow were not going to let the lockdown spoil their end of year celebrations.

Despite most children working from home since March, teachers have been regularly keeping in touch and providing a vast array of home school learning opportunities.

Trying to maintain some level of 'normality' has been important for families and many staff who have still been working in school during the week.

School Headteacher, Ruth Noall, said: "We were not going to let lockdown spoil our end of year plans too much!

In the past week we have held a virtual sports day, enjoyed a bake-off, investigated Black Lives Matter in a bit more depth and taken part in a virtual talent show.

Year 6 enjoyed a walk to the Longbarrow for a picnic and ice-cream and said a special farewell in their leavers' service; something we were able to enjoy 'virtually' together on the last day."

In a letter to staff and pupils at the end of term, Mrs Noall thanked everyone for their support in what has been an incredibly challenging time since the coronavirus pandemic began in March.

She said: "It has been a year like no other and we will all certainly remember it. I know we will remember the difficult moments, but I hope too we will be able to look back and remember how well we rallied, supported, comforted and worked together to seek out the rainbow from the storm. I am so incredibly proud of our children for their resilience and maturity in adjusting to the 'new normal'.

And I know that parents and children have been truly amazing at home, delivering home learning whilst also taking time to be together baking, gardening, walking, reading and playing.

We are very excited to be making plans for a full reopening of school in September."
