The local printers has reacted to news that the Argos catalogue is no more.

Argos announced July 30 that after 48 years and an estimated one billion copies, it will no longer print the twice-a-year catalogue.

The catalogue was first launched in 1972 and quickly became a huge favourite with customers.

Fosseway Press told Nub News that the decision is not a surprise - although they are actually expanding their print work.

"The printing industry has changed dramatically over the last 40 years, more and more publications have stopped but we feel this is mainly due to the 'online' experience people require rather than the lack of desire for the information contained in the publications. " Adrienne Lynch the Managing Director told Nub News.

"Sadly, the pandemic has hit a lot of businesses and the printing industry is no exception. We have all had to adapt to new ways of living and working and it's not going to be over any time soon so it's the new 'norm'. It's very worrying when these large companies have to do such drastic measures to keep going, it definitely makes you wonder if we small businesses will survive!"

Meantime the company is behind a new resurrected community paper which is coming out today (July 31). It has a print run of 10,000.

"Our new publication is about helping bring the Somer Valley businesses through these strange and hard times, plus keeping the community informed as much as possible also. Our motto is a 'community paper by the community for the community'. We aim to make the publication informative and helpful whilst ensuring the articles are of interest. "
